This is considered our “next steps” shotgun course, as you’ve had time to practice the skills covered in Defensive Shotgun Foundations/Essentials. This course requires the completion of Gunset’s Defensive Shotgun Foundations. (Other vetted shotgun courses may be approved as prerequisite)

The focus of this 8-hour, one day course is to allow students who’ve built a foundational proficiency in the operation of their shotgun to expand their ability to operate in a more dynamic context. This course will feature:

- Foundational skills review

- Multi-target engagements

- Sling utilization

- Negotiating angles/barriers

- Timed drills and student vs. student competitions

- Pattern confirmation

- Gunset Shotgun patch standards

Equipment requirements

- Reliable pump or semi-automatic shotgun

- Eye protection and hearing protection (electronic preferably)

- Clothing appropriate for weather conditions, sunscreen, brimmed hat

- Hydration, snacks, lunch (restaurants are available in the area)

- Appropriate tactical TWO POINT sling for all day wear. E.g., Blue Force Gear, Magpul etc. Padded will make you happy.

- Sidesaddle shotgun mounted shell carrier

- Preferred method to carry extra ammo on person. E.g., dump pouch, fanny pack, extra shell cards, etc. (NO SHELL CARRYING SLINGS)

- 140 rounds of birdshot (LEAD SHOT ONLY, cheap is fine if it cycles)

- 40 Rounds of 00 buckshot. (5 ROUNDS at least of your chosen defensive buckshot for patterning. The rest can be any generic 00 buckshot)

- 15 shotgun slugs
